I graduated from the Escuela Colombiana del Diseño y las Artes in Bogotá, Colombia in 1991 with a major in fashion design. Then, I went on to work as a fashion designer and seamstress in Bogota for five years before moving to Miami in 1998. I opened up my in-home shop in 2004. Over the past 17 years, my shop has been slowly growing in Miami and now I have a family of over 700 active clients. My clients know they can come to me for the most minimal requests, like sewing on a button, as well as more complex design requests including: creating Halloween costumes, prom, wedding dresses, or bridesmaid dresses, just to name a few.

I have also created my own line of head wrap towels, body wrap towels, luxury robes, head bands, and towel cover ups for kids. My company, By Pilar Roa, was built from the ground up. What started as a small, in-home business, with just me and one sewing machine,  has grown and become a successful adventure! I now have three other women who work with me every day to help make our clients happy. Everything is handmade with love here at By Pilar Roa.​
